Jake R. Swette
Jake is a licensed provider with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and maintains his professional certification through the National Certification Committee for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. He completed his board examinations in Biomedicine, Chinese Medicine, & Acupuncture. He is a professional member of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado, the Wilderness Medical Society, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
In college, Jake studied human movement science, public health science, & philosophy. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree. His advanced degrees include over 3,700 hours of education, and over 1,000 hours of clinical training. He completed his post-graduate education in Colorado and California where Licensed Acupuncturists are trained and licensed as Primary Care Providers (PCPs), and his teachers have been some of the most renowned scholars and doctors of Chinese Medicine, herbalism, and acupuncture in the world.
Jake also holds more hour-for-hour training in acupuncture and dry needling therapies than any LAc, MD, DC, or PT in Northern Minnesota/Wisconsin, and he is the only provider to combine these techniques in the Twin Ports.
Jake has a broad background of clinical experiences in health centers and clinics throughout the U.S. and China. Early on he was actually invited to be part of an integrative sports medicine team where he worked with NCAA Division I athletes at the University of Colorado. This is the only residential sports medicine training program of its kind in the country and has deeply informed how he works with athletes and body movers today.
He has since taken multiple post graduate trips to China to study advanced acupuncture and Chinese physiotherapy methods, as well as Yangsheng (nourishing life traditions), tai chi, tea, and Mandarin language. He is committed to offering the most advanced acupuncture methods outside of China.
Jake strongly supports an integrative health model and works together with physicians and APP’s to ensure his patients are getting the most comprehensive care possible. He is well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of both Biomedicine & Eastern medicine, and he knows how to get individuals to higher levels of health.
Though he enjoys working with all people, he draws from his background in the world of movement practice & movement science to offer high-quality patient care and wellness education for athletes and active, health conscious community members specifically. His clinical work is primarily offered at Essentia Health where he is the organization’s lead acupuncturist. He also maintains a small private practice outside of this where he is able to offer more complete and personalized care.
Feel free to say hello if you ever bump into Jake out on a trail or at a local restaurant. He respects patient privacy and won’t approach you himself, but when not wearing a white lab coat, he is a laid back and down to earth guy who is happy to connect with and get to know members of the community.
